How Relearns collects, uses, and protects information about schools, teachers, students, and parents who use our platform.
Last updated: May 15, 2026
1. Who we are
Relearns is operated by Relearns Technologies LLP (“Relearns”, “we”, “us”, or “our”), a limited liability partnership incorporated in India. We provide a K-12 learning and school-management platform (the “Service”) used by schools, teachers, students, and parents.
This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, how we use and share it, and the rights you have. It applies to all visitors of our marketing website and all users of the Relearns platform.
2. Our role: data fiduciary and data processor
When a school subscribes to Relearns, the school is the Data Fiduciary (controller) for student, parent, teacher, and staff data uploaded into the platform, and Relearns acts as a Data Processor on the school’s instructions. For our marketing site, account administration, billing, and support, Relearns acts as the Data Fiduciary.
Where the European Union General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) applies, “Data Fiduciary” corresponds to “controller” and “Data Processor” to “processor”.
3. Information we collect
a. Information schools provide
Schools upload or generate information about students, parents, teachers, and staff, which may include: name, class and section, roll number, contact details (email, phone), date of birth, academic performance, homework and assessment submissions, behavioural notes, and parent-teacher communications.
b. Information users provide directly
When users sign in, submit work, ask doubts, or contact us, we collect the content they share, along with profile information (name, email, role, photo if uploaded).
c. Information collected automatically
We log device and usage data such as IP address, browser type, operating system, pages and features used, time stamps, error reports, and approximate location derived from IP. We use first-party cookies and similar technologies that are strictly necessary for the Service to function, plus a small set of analytics cookies to understand product usage.
d. Information from third parties
If a school integrates Relearns with services such as Google Workspace for Education or Microsoft 365, we receive authentication and roster data from those services in line with the school’s configuration.
4. Children’s data
Relearns is designed for use inside schools. Student accounts (including those of minors) are created at the request of the school after the school has obtained any consent required from parents or guardians under applicable law, including the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (India).
We do not knowingly use children’s personal data for behavioural advertising, profiling, or targeted marketing. We do not sell student data.
5. How we use information
- To provide, maintain, and improve the Service.
- To authenticate users and prevent fraud or abuse.
- To produce reports, analytics, and insights for the school.
- To respond to support requests and communicate operational updates.
- To meet legal, tax, accounting, and compliance obligations.
- For limited marketing communications to schools and prospective customers, which they can opt out of at any time.
6. Legal bases for processing
Depending on the activity and your location, we rely on one or more of the following bases: performance of a contract with the school or user, compliance with a legal obligation, our legitimate interests (e.g., securing the Service), consent (where required, including verifiable parental consent for minors), and to protect vital interests in rare safety-related cases.
7. Sharing of information
We share personal data only as described below:
- Within the school. A student’s data is visible to authorised teachers, administrators, and their parents, as configured by the school.
- Service providers. We use vetted sub-processors for cloud hosting, email, error tracking, and analytics under written data-processing terms. A current list is available on request.
- Legal and safety. Where required by law, court order, or to protect rights and safety.
- Business transfers. In connection with a merger, acquisition, or similar transaction, subject to continued protection of the data.
We do not sell personal data, and we do not share student data with advertisers.
8. Data location and transfers
Personal data is primarily stored on servers located in India. Where we transfer data outside India, we do so only to countries permitted under applicable law and under appropriate safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses where relevant.
9. Retention
We retain personal data for as long as the school’s subscription is active and for a limited period afterwards to allow the school to recover data or to meet legal obligations. Backups are rotated on a defined schedule. Schools can request deletion of their data at any time during the subscription and after termination, subject to applicable law.
10. Security
We use industry-standard safeguards including encryption in transit (TLS), encryption at rest for sensitive fields, role-based access controls, audit logging, and regular security reviews. No system is perfectly secure; if we become aware of a personal-data breach we will notify the affected school and applicable authorities as required by law.
11. Your rights
Subject to applicable law, users and Data Principals may request access to, correction of, or erasure of their personal data, may withdraw consent, and may object to or restrict certain processing. For data the school controls, please contact the school directly. For data Relearns controls, write to us at the address in Section 14 and we will respond within the timelines required by law.
12. Cookies
We use strictly necessary cookies to keep users signed in and to secure the Service, and a small number of analytics cookies. We do not use advertising cookies. You can clear cookies in your browser settings; doing so may sign you out of the Service.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated to schools by email or through the Service. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
